Pro Bloom-A Saturday Product Review

I’ll just let you know, although I have tried many things at one time or another, I am not one to put my girls on a bunch of supplements. If they are having some sort of problem I have no issues trying something to help. But overall, my girls are healthy and doing fine.

Well, mostly.

At first I didn’t think twice about the box of Pro Bloom from The Honest Kitchen I received in my swag bag at Blogpaws. Pro Bloom BoxThen I realized that the probiotics and digestive enzymes might be just what my foster dog, Molly, needs. You see, Molly has had a little gas problem. And by “little” I mean “please someone build me a fallout shelter because surely this is gonna kill me” type gas. Please don’t tell her I told you. She is such a sweet, happy girl and I would HATE to hurt her feelings. Plus, she sometimes just looked so confused at the noise coming from..well..you know. Now, before you start thinking you know what the issue was, I tried two different grain free kibbles (6 weeks each). Although my Daisy eats The Honest Kitchen, I just can’t afford it for more than one large dog right now. So, I was hopeful that the company I had come to trust with several of Daisy’s health issues had come up with a product that would help Molly. Gas may not be the worst issue in the world, but a girl has to maintain her image!

instant goat milk

powder in water-before mixing

Pro Bloom is an instant goat milk powder supplement with digestive enzymes and probiotics. It is a human grade product from free range goats here in the USA. You mix with warm water…and let the dog drink it. I’ve seen some who froze them into treats. You can mix it with kibble, or let your dog drink it straight up. Of course, you can always mix it into your pets normal Honest Kitchen Dinner as well. It can be stored in the fridge for 2 days.

I started Molly out on the sample box I received. For her, one packet daily was recommended per her weight. I would split it half in the morning, half in the evening. I mixed it with her kibble-basically making her some cereal. Yummy CerealHer change was dramatic. Within days I could tell a difference. I was no longer running for the hills to escape my sweet foster girl. It coincidentally came at the best time-she finally learned how to jump up on the bed with her stubby legs. I don’t think I could have allowed her to sleep with me before Pro Bloom.

Can I finish eating please?

Can I finish eating please?

We are now in what I consider the maintenance phase. I have reduced her Pro Bloom to being half the recommended serving with dinner only. Now, a packet lasts us two days. I am still happy with the result and as you can see, she is quite excited come dinner time! I think this is one supplement I will be sticking to. The results have spoken for themselves. I feel I should add that Pro Bloom is also for cats. However, since a cat wouldn’t make it in my house very long I don’t have any way to try it out with one. If you have tried it with a cat, please leave a comment! I’d love to know how it worked out for you.

Disclaimer: I was provided one box of Pro Bloom at Blogpaws. I have since joined The Honest Kitchen’s Blogger network to receive discounted products. I wouldn’t have done this if I didn’t love The Honest Kitchen. I plan on reviewing several of The Honest Kitchens products in the future.

A Product Review with Chewy.com and Orijen

I was very excited when Chewy.com wrote to ask if I would consider doing a product review for them. I love their service. I order the food I can’t get locally from them, and if it is over forty-nine dollars it ships for free! They also have an autoship program that I keep intending to looking into setting up but going online to order each time is so easy that I just haven’t felt the need to do it. By not having autoship it also allows me to go and look at all the other pet related items they carry.

Luckily, I don’t have to look for a new treat this month because we were asked to try out Orijen’s new freeze-dried treats. We received a bag of the Brome Lake Duck flavor to try. First, a little about the company. Orijen strives to use fresh, regional ingredients in all their dog foods. They just don’t go out and order beef-they want to know what farm the beef comes from. Their foods are manufactured in Canada, and they only use ingredients that have been deemed fit for humans. This is much different from many pet food companies out there. The freeze drying processes combines pressure and below freezing temperatures to vaporize the water out of the food. Honestly, when you see it written out it sounds a bit like science fiction.

So, I hope you can see why I was excited to try these treats. First, I didn’t know Orijen was making freeze-dried treats! Second, with a company so committed to quality I feel really good about having the girls try them. Third, since I know Chewy.com carries them-I can have them delivered right to my door!

Girls!! STOP! We have work to do here!

These freeze-dried treats were a hit with all three girls! I mean, its pure duck meat and duck liver so I’m not sure it is possible for them to not like it. One thing I noticed right away are that these treats are soft and not chalky like many other freeze-dried treats we have tried. This makes them perfect to be able to be pinched in half. As you can see-they are just smaller than a quarter. They are only 7 calories a piece, so by breaking them in half they are the perfect training treat. They also have a strong smell. It isn’t a bad smell at all-just “meaty”. My current foster, Molly, has a bit of hand shyness. This was the perfect treat to be able to toss to her outside in the grass because it was easy for her to find using her nose. I had honestly had a bit of trouble finding a good treat to use outside with her because of this very issue and had limited much of our training to indoors or concrete. Even picky Bella (who refused to have a picture taken) loved this treat. The final thing that is GREAT about these treats is many come as single ingredient varieties. This is perfect if your dog has allergies and needs to limit certain foods or if you need treats during an elimination diet.

I’ll be honest-I ordered a couple more bags of these treats before I had even finished the sample Chewy.com provided to me. This treat is “the one” for us. Grain free for my Daisy with allergies, something my picky-eater Bella enjoyed, and something my foster dog can find in the grass if my toss to her is a bit off. I feel good knowing it is coming from such a great company as Orijen.

Please open these back up.

Tasty Tuesday-A Product Review

One of my goals at Blogpaws was to be able to meet and interact with companies in order to bring new products to my readers. I met Travis, founder of the treat delivery service Be Pawsitive. He was really nice and he was there talking about this new service/company he was starting. I got home, and thankfully he wrote to see if I wanted to try his treats!

Be Pawsitive is a treat subscription service. You pick a plan (click here for pricing) and yummy, small batch baked, organic treats are delivered right to your door. There are seven varieties being made right now. We received a bag of the original flavor.

Now, you may be asking…why do I want a treat delivery service when I can buy treats at my local store? One answer is that there is a little something extra every month. For June it was a gift card to Rover.com and a vinyl Be Pawsitive car decal. That would be enough for some people to sign up, but what if you need something more? The thing that really sets Be Pawsitive a step above other companies is their “one for one” model. This means for every box of treats you purchase and have delivered to your home, Be Pawsitive will donate a box to a shelter or rescue organization. These organizations rely on donations and I love that this is such an easy way for me to make a difference!

The girls love that the treats taste good. Daisy was my official tester and by the drool on her chin I’d say she gives the treats two paws up! Overall, I think this is a great service for your dogs, and for rescue pets everywhere.

Hot Beach Babe 2013!!

Look at this hot babe I saw out on the beach!!

Oh wait, this isn’t what they meant by search engine optimization at Blogpaws? Oops…Guess I need to go review my notes again! I thought I was supposed to use a catchy title that people would search for!

I’d like to let you in on a little secret place I found that is a nice little getaway and dog friendly to boot! It’s the Mystery Location I teased you with on Wednesday.

This is funny looking driftwood.

Jekyll Island is one of the “Golden Isles” of Georgia. As one of the barrier islands in the coastal region, there is a diverse ecosystem for those folks who enjoy getting out with nature. We were there on a weekday so it wasn’t too crowded-I’m sure come summer the beaches will be hopping! The coolest part is the beaches on this island are dog friendly all year long! Many Georgia beaches are either not dog friendly at all, or have restricted dog access during the summer months. Jekyll Island has a typical “sand and waves” type beach but that isn’t where we visited. If you plan your trip during low tide I would recommend driving to the north side of the island for a walk on Driftwood Beach. It is just beautiful and only a short walk from the pier.

Did you really tie me to this??

If you ever consider taking a vacation in this area there is fishing, horseback riding, a water park, and TONS of history. This area was active in not just the Civil War, but the Revolutionary War as well. If you are into golf…they have you covered! You can rent bikes and ride on the trails as well.

It can be hard to find activities to share with Bella due to her anxiety. The loud waves made her a bit nervous but overall I think she had a good time. The beach is full of new and potent smells (rotting horseshoe crab anyone?). The picture from the Wordless Wednesday post is us looking with the beach to our back…it is a salt marsh. During high tide the area fills with salty water and feeds many animals that live in the muck.

Wow! This is a fascinating smell!

No Bella…you may NOT roll on that!!
